Communications chip developer GigPeak has announced the GX66471, a 64Gbaud quad-channel linear optical modulator driver for next-generation 400G/600G coherent applications.
The 64Gbaud linear driver offers a way for line card and pluggable module vendors to bring next-generation 400G and 600G coherent optical modules to the market.
GigPeak’s GX66471 is designed to support 64Gbaud 16QAM and 64QAM formats to address the needs of both 400G and 600G systems. With differential input and single-end output interfaces with a 4.5Vpp output voltage swing, the chip is suitable for driving lithium niobate Mach-Zehnder modulators in the quad configuration required by polarisation-multiplexed systems.
The driver features low power consumption and is small enough to fit inside pluggable models, such as the CFP2-ACO. It comes in a 14mm x 9.1mm surface-mount technology (SMT) package.
“The introduction of this product allows us to provide our customers with a solid transmitter product portfolio, in addition to our existing connectorised GPPO and SMT drivers for 100Gb/s and 200Gb/s applications,” said Koichi Murata, senior director of marketing, telecom products at GigPeak.
GigPeak will hold a live demonstration of the GX66471 on its booth at OFC 2017, highlighting the electrical time domain output waveform with 64Gbaud higher order modulated signals.
The device is sampling now.
