UK government commits £200 million to rural fibre broadband

UK chancellor of the exchequer, Philip Hammond, confirmed in the 2018 budget report that £200 million will be allocated to fund full fibre broadband connections in harder-to-reach and rural areas across the UK. This will allow for testing of new approaches to fibre rollout in rural areas, with the Borderlands, Cornwall, and Welsh valleys said to be amongst the first areas to benefit.

ElectroniCast: U.S. OSP fibre optic cable duct market to reach nearly $1.47billion by 2027

Market and technology research consultancy ElectroniCast Consultants has released its latest market forecast report covering the non-aerial deployed Outside Plant (OSP) fibre optic cable ducts in America. The report’s findings indicate that the combined consumption value of (main) ducts and mini/inner ducts used in (non-aerial) outside plant (OSP) for the purpose to accommodate fibre optic cable in the U.S. reached $996.5million last year, and is forecast to reach nearly $1.47billion in 2027. 

Huawei confirms Australia ban from 5G network

Huawei has issued a statement confirming that a ban is in place, preventing the company from providing 5G to the Australian market, in a move it calls ‘politically motivated’ rather than in the ‘long-term interests of the Australian people.’
