Wireless splicing technology showcased by Fujikura at ECOC 2018

ECOC 2018 was the platform from which Fujikura Europe introduced the latest addition to its fusion splicer product line, the 41S.

By working wirelessly with the new CT50 fibre cleaver, the splicer improves installation time as well as cost. Designed for FTTX, data centre, LAN and access applications, the future-proof smart splicer has active v-groove alignment and boasts innovative features in a compact and robust package. It has been upgraded from its predecessor, the 22S, and can now deliver accurate core splice loss estimation.

Backbone: reliable fiber optic connections for essential transmission points

Malfunctions or failures in optical backbone networks are the nightmare of any network operator and can result in nerve-wracking and often costly repairs. Insertion loss, return loss and the ability to withstand high power densities are decisive criteria that should be considered when selecting the suitable connector.

Sidewinder from AFL eases tactical fibre deployment

AFL has expanded its range of ground tactical fibre optics products for fast deployment with the Sidewinder Rapid Cable Deployment System.

The Sidewinder reel system is made from a high impact grade polymer that is also lightweight and easy to handle. The removable handle enables fast sidewinding action so that cable rigging can be accomplished rapidly, helping to ease the deployment of tactical fibre optic cables by reducing handling and set up time for portable deployment and retrieval in field conditions.

Prysmian Group enhances flexible ribbon technology

Prysmian Group recently rolled out two enhancements to its line of FlexRibbon products. This new line, which feature MassLink with FlexRibbon technology, is designed to support large-scale data centres operated by major companies worldwide.

DIAMOND optical attenuators - precise and repeatable

Attenuators are used to adapt the transmitted light power to the characteristics of the implanted receiver. The in-line fixed attenuators (OAF) offer excellent reliability and repeatable amount of light loss (attenuation) via a doped fiber. This results in wavelength independent and stable attenuation values for typical wavelength bands used in telecommunication applications (1260-1360 and 1460-1580 nm). They are suitable for optical power up to 20dBm.

New CommScope long haul antenna product lines upgrade microwave antenna range

CommScope has upgraded its microwave antenna portfolio with the introduction of two new long-haul antenna product lines – USX and HX – into its Sentinel and ValuLine ranges. These are designed to ultimately replace the company’s existing long-haul antennas, providing next generation performance for cellular, broadcast, telecom and private networks.

AFL adds to MicroCore family with Ultra HD for high fibre density deployments

The latest addition to AFL’s MicroCore cable family is the Ultra HD MicroCore, which uses SpiderWeb Ribbon (SWR) technology.

The new cable supports high fibre density deployments in data centre and central office installation environments and is designed to optimise splicing efficiency when interconnected with the company’s Wrapping Tube Cable (WTC), a fibre optic cable that AFL says provides the smallest cable diameter and lowest weight, high-fibre count ribbon cable in the industry.
