Fiber Optic Center (FOC), a supplier of all equipment needed for the automated production of fibre-optic cable assemblies, has added a comprehensive industry glossary to its website.

Containing more than 3,600 entries and more than 2000 abbreviations, the FOC glossary includes military specifications for connectors in addition to general terms and definitions. The resource covers fibre, cable, wire, optics, assembly, connectors, electrical, data communications and testing terms, as well as the FOC ancillary expert areas of polymers, chemicals, lapping film, adhesives and epoxies.

VETRO FiberMap launches cloud-based FTTx mapping

VETRO FiberMap, a subsidiary of the GIS consulting firm NBT Solutions, has launched the VETRO FiberMap Network Mapping Platform, designed specifically to meet the needs of small to mid-sized internet service providers (ISPs) and community broadband networks.

Ciena offers commercial version of ON.Lab ONOS open source software

Ciena, though its Blue Planet division, plans to offer a fully-supported commercial version of the Open Networking Operating System (ONOS) open-source software. The release of Blue Planet ONOS will make it easier for operators wanting to work with ONOS. From Ciena’s perspective, it also extends the capabilities of the Blue Planet network orchestration software into the data centre domain.

Calix unveils AXOS for access network virtualisation

Broadband equipment vendor Calix has unveiled AXOS, or Access eXtensible Operating System, a Linux-based network operating system and software platform designed to bring software defined networking (SDN) to the access network.

A*STAR IME and Lumerical accelerate silicon photonics design

The photonics foundry at A*STAR’s Institute of Microelectronics (IME) has partnered with Lumerical Solutions, a provider of photonic design software, to develop a calibrated compact model library (CML) for IME’s silicon photonics platform and process design kit (PDK).

IME offers a 25G/s-capable silicon photonics platform and PDK, which are built on validated processes and devices. The foundry service enables PIC designers to build reliable devices with state-of-the-art performance, and achieve prototyping and product manufacturing with ease.

Sorrento extends repair service to Nortel customers in North America

Sorrento Networks International has launched its Nortel equipment repair service in North America following international demand.
