Biznet, an integrated digital infrastructure company in Indonesia, has deployed Ciena’s WaveLogic 5 Extreme (WL5e) on the international link of its submarine cable, the Biznet Nusantara Cable System-1 (BNCS-1). The upgrade provides vital inter-island connectivity across the Java, Sumatra, and Bangka islands.
The initiative aims to deliver 400G high-speed services alongside faster, more reliable internet connectivity. It will also help accelerate digitalisation in Indonesia by enhancing the capacity of links connecting local and global networks.
Adi Kusma, president director of Biznet, noted that in today’s increasingly hyper-connected world, the company continues to focus on creating innovative services, meeting ever-changing bandwidth demands, and delivering an excellent digital experience for customers.
"We have a long history working with Ciena, and its WaveLogic technology allows us to meet our commitment in providing faster and more reliable services for today’s digital era, while accelerating digital transformation in Indonesia," Kusma said.
Automation via Navigator Network Control Suite
Ciena Services and Ciena partner Terrabit Networks are jointly supporting the design and deployment of the Ciena 6500 platform, powered by WL5e, to drive seamless integration with other Biznet fibre networks.
Additionally, Biznet is using Ciena’s Navigator Network Control Suite to access advanced network control, planning, and automation capabilities. This integration is expected to result in more efficient operations and faster service provisioning.
Alex Wong, regional managing director for ASEAN at Ciena, added that Indonesia is a key connectivity hub in Southeast Asia, where demand for high-capacity, low-latency connectivity continues to grow exponentially in the AI era.
"By upgrading the BNCS-1 submarine fibre optic network, Biznet can deliver faster internet services, improve spectral efficiency, and support long-term growth," Wong said.
Expanding regional collaboration
The project builds upon Biznet's earlier collaboration with Ciena to support infrastructure expansion across the Java, Bali, Sumatra, Batam, Bangka, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Flores islands.
Beyond increasing capacity on BNCS-1, the upgrade improves performance on the Batam–Singapore link. This enables superior international gateway capacity, faster access to global services, and more stable connections for end users.
Kusma said that as Indonesia enters the AI era, robust internet connectivity has moved beyond being a simple necessity: it has become the core foundation for delivering fast, stable, and seamless digital experiences. "Therefore, our collaboration with Ciena in advancing network infrastructure and connectivity is a strategic move to ensure optimal service delivery," Kusma concluded.
