We're thrilled to announce that Fibre Systems is relaunching this year with an enhanced editorial programme and the return of our print magazine. Under new leadership (but with familiar faces), editor Keely Portway and publisher Kris Collins, we'll deliver comprehensive coverage of the optical networking ecosystem spanning data centres, submarine networks, FTTH deployment, and emerging technologies.
We couldn't have picked a more exciting time to relaunch. The optical communications industry is experiencing a transformative moment, with artificial intelligence workloads driving unprecedented demand for high-speed optical connectivity. The shift to 800G transceivers and early deployments of 1.6T technology are reshaping data centre infrastructure, whilst hyperscalers continue investing billions in submarine cable systems and operators accelerate fibre-to-the-home rollouts globally.
Meet the Fibre Systems team (probably the shortest in optical comms)
"We're witnessing the most exciting period in optical communications in over a decade," says Keely, who brings more than 10 years of experience covering optical communications, telecommunications infrastructure, and photonics technology. "AI infrastructure demands are pushing the boundaries of what's possible with optical networking, from silicon photonics innovation to co-packaged optics development. Our readers need authoritative, technical coverage that cuts through the hype and delivers the insights they need to make informed decisions."
Kris, who serves as publisher, has extensive experience in B2B media sales and a proven track record building engaged audiences in technical markets. Together, we may well be the shortest media team in optical communications, but our combined expertise and passion for the industry runs deep.
"Our readers are the engineers, product managers, and executives building the infrastructure that connects the world," said Kris. "Whether it's selecting transceivers for an AI cluster, planning a submarine cable route, or deploying next-generation PON technology, Fibre Systems provides the technical depth and market intelligence they need."
What we're offering across platforms
We'll be delivering content across multiple platforms. Our print magazine returns with two issues in 2026, distributed at all major industry events including OFC (17-19 March in Los Angeles) and ECOC (21-23 September). Digital coverage includes breaking news, in-depth feature articles, technology spotlights, and a monthly webcast programme covering topics from subsea networks to pluggable transceiver innovation.
We'll address the critical topics shaping the industry, including AI's impact on optical networking infrastructure, data centre optics evolution from 800G to 1.6T and beyond, submarine cable capacity growth, FTTH deployment strategies across Europe and North America, silicon photonics and co-packaged optics development, 5G fronthaul and backhaul solutions, and advances in DWDM, coherent optics, and network automation.
Our first relaunched print issue will debut at OFC 2026 with features examining data centre network advances driven by AI workloads, submarine capacity growth meeting hyperscaler demands, and transatlantic FTTH deployment strategies. We'll also be providing video coverage from the OFC show floor with daily updates and exclusive interviews with industry leaders.
