KBRO, a leading multiple-system operator in Taiwan, is accelerating its transition to next-generation broadband by deploying Harmonic’s fibre-on-demand solution. Powered by the cOS virtualised broadband platform, this upgrade enables KBRO to deliver multi-gigabit speeds via XGS-PON technology across its entire footprint.

This strategic move allows KBRO to modernise its network with a "demand-driven" approach. By complementing their existing DOCSIS high-split strategy, KBRO can now scale fibre services exactly where they are needed most, ensuring a flexible and future-proof architecture for long-term service evolution.

Surgical fibre deployment from existing infrastructure

PK Lee, vice president of engineering at KBRO, said the company sees the future of the broadband market in Taiwan defined by fibre-deep innovation and scalable infrastructure: "Our focus is on providing outstanding broadband experiences to our customers while managing our investments responsibly. Expanding our partnership with Harmonic enables us to deploy fibre where demand is strongest and efficiently deliver next-generation broadband speeds across our network."

Harmonic's fibre-on-demand solution allows KBRO to surgically and quickly activate advanced fibre services directly from existing Harmonic Oyster Remote-PHY nodes. This approach eliminates redundant infrastructure and aligns network expansion directly with revenue opportunities, allowing for a cost-effective and sustainable upgrade to XGS-PON technology.

APAC market expansion

Jeffrey Glahn, senior vice president of global sales at Harmonic, said KBRO continues to demonstrate strong leadership in advancing broadband infrastructure in a competitive market:

"At Harmonic, our goal is to provide broadband service providers with a practical path to expand fibre strategically and efficiently. KBRO's implementation of Harmonic's fibre-on-demand architecture in the APAC market reinforces our expanding presence in global fibre modernisation initiatives."

Harmonic's cOS platform currently powers next-generation broadband services through nearly 41 million customer premises equipment (CPE) devices worldwide for leading operators in North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia.
