Nokia has announced the opening of a new research and development centre in Riyadh, focused on developing AI-powered network automation and orchestration software. The centre will specialise in Service Management and Orchestration (SMO), Self-Organising Networks (SON), Autopilot, and rApps technologies designed to enable communications networks to self-configure, self-heal, and optimise performance with greater autonomy. Teams will develop AI-driven capabilities for communications service providers and enterprises, whilst exploring the development of AI-native 6G technologies and contributing software innovations to Nokia's global customer base.

The announcement follows an agreement between Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Nokia President and CEO Justin Hotard, reflecting the Kingdom's ambitions under Saudi Vision 2030 to build an innovation-driven economy powered by local talent and advanced research capabilities.
