Business-focused UK fibre operator ITS has launched full fibre services in Glasgow and Newcastle upon Tyne, extending symmetric 10Gbps-capable connectivity to more than 11,000 commercial premises across both cities.
The deployment marks ITS's first network build in Scotland, with Glasgow coverage reaching more than 7,000 business locations. In Newcastle, the XGS-PON infrastructure passes more than 4,000 premises.
Strategic expansion targets high-growth sectors
Glasgow's network footprint encompasses key business districts including the International Financial Services District, Glasgow Riverside Innovation District, and Merchant City. ITS said the infrastructure is designed to serve high-value organisations across financial services, digital industries, life sciences, and creative sectors.
The Newcastle deployment covers innovation hubs such as Newcastle Helix, the National Innovation Centre for Data, and the Digital Quarter. ITS highlighted the city's concentration of large employers and growing demand from health, education, and technology organisations for scalable, high-capacity connectivity.
A quarter of UK business premises now addressable
With the two city launches, ITS's network now reaches more than 25% of UK business premises. The operator said growth is supported by a combination of local authority contracts and proprietary infrastructure investment.
"Glasgow and Newcastle upon Tyne are among the UK's most forward-looking cities, and switching on our networks marks an important milestone in our nationwide rollout," said Dave Ferry, chief sales officer at ITS (pictured).
Ferry positioned full fibre infrastructure as foundational for cloud adoption and artificial intelligence (AI) applications. "These networks will help to attract further investment and ensure businesses in both cities can take full advantage of emerging technologies," he added.
Wholesale platform leverages symmetric 10G PON
ITS operates a wholesale platform that enables ISPs, managed service providers, resellers, and national and international operators to deliver gigabit services to business customers using its digital infrastructure.
The company's XGS-PON technology supports symmetric 10Gbps transmission over the passive optical network (PON), providing crucial bandwidth headroom and equal upload/download speeds necessary for enterprise cloud and AI applications.
