Belgian telecommunications operator, Proximus has chosen the Viavi ONMSi optical network monitoring system to test and monitor its growing fibre to the home (FTTH) network at the build-out stage, in order to help maintain reliability.
VIAVI Solutions has partnered with Microsemi to enable flexible optical networking technologies to meet the demands of 5G networks, providing service providers globally with solution platforms to build, test and quickly deploy 5G-ready optical networks including OTUCn, Flexible OTN (FlexO) and Flexible Ethernet (FlexE) technologies.
As the year ends and a new one starts, it’s time to look back at some of the highlights of the last 12 months. 2017 was a great year for the optical networking industry and for Fibre Systems in particular as website traffic grew by 30 per cent. We’ve studied the statistics to see who was reading what. We then divided our top ten stories of the year into the five most-read news stories and the five most popular feature articles. Without further ado, here they are.
Here are the headlines that caught our readers’ attention in 2017.
Networks are becoming cloudy in more ways than one. Test equipment vendors are already using cloud systems to manage tools and test results, and now Viavi Solutions has connected the results from its test instruments to network management platforms for the first time.
Viavi Solutions has integrated Trilithic plant leakage data into its XPERTrak virtualised assurance system, following the acquisition on August 9 (see Viavi acquires broadband test vendor Trilithic).
The companies are showcasing their combined portfolio for cable service providers for the first time at SCTE/ISBE Cable-Tec Expo 2017 in Denver, Colorado, this week.
Ribbon fibre with MPO connectivity enables higher capacities throughout enterprises and data centres, but also introduces new challenges for both installation technicians and network operators. Viavi Solutions has introduced two new tools that allow technicians to test MPO connectors with unprecedented speed and precision.
Oleg Khaykin, CEO of Viavi Solutions, speaks candidly to Fibre Systems about how to compete in the challenging world of communications test and measurement
Test instrumentation specialist Viavi Solutions has snapped up Trilithic, a provider of broadband test equipment, for an undisclosed sum.
A privately held company based in Indianapolis, Trilithic has products in two main areas: broadband instruments for installation and troubleshooting inside the home, and emergency alert systems that allow service providers to transmit public alerts and warnings across any kind of network. The company is profitable with revenues in the mid $20-million range, according to Viavi.
Test and measurement vendor Viavi Solutions has announced availability of the SmartClass Fiber MPOLx optical loss test set, which is tailored for contractors inspecting enterprise and data centre cabling systems using ribbon fibre with multi-fibre push on (MPO) connectors.
The company says the MPOLx is the industry’s first dedicated optical loss test set that can perform all MPO Tier 1 (basic) test and certification requirements, including tests for length, optical loss, polarity and inspect fibre end-face condition.
