Racks Central picks Coriant to connect Singapore data centres

Racks Central, a carrier-neutral data centre provider in Singapore, has selected Coriant to build a resilient and flexible transport infrastructure that will interconnect major data centres in Singapore.

The new network will enable Racks Central to meet the demand for cloud-based services in the Asia Pacific region, by cost-efficiently scaling capacity between its data centres from 10Gb/s to 1Tb/s. while also expanding its portfolio of carrier-grade connectivity and data centre services.

Coriant has supplied a range of products, including the Coriant 7100 Pico packet-optical transport platform, Coriant Pluggable Optical Layer, and the Coriant Groove G30 data centre interconnect (DCI) platform.

This is the first announced customer for Coriant’s Groove G30 DCI platform, according to chief technology officer Uwe Fischer. The product is becoming generally available now, and is shipping to multiple customers with more waiting in the wings, he says.

Racks Central has chosen the DCI platform from Coriant for its small footprint, hyper-scalable capacity, and high-performance connectivity, the company explained.

‘We are committed to investing in cutting-edge technology that will allow us to offer our customers cost-effective access to the region's growing cloud and data centre ecosystem,’ said Bobby Wee, chief executive officer, Racks Central. ‘To provide value-added data centre connectivity solutions along with our colocation services, Coriant is an ideal partner for Racks Central, and their best-in-class DCI solution enhances our ability to quickly respond to our customers' evolving service needs and capacity requirements very cost effectively.’

Introduced in December 2015, the Coriant Groove G30 DCI Platform is a stackable transport platform for cloud and data centre networks that delivers 3.2Tb/s of capacity throughput in a compact 1RU form factor (see Coriant gets into the groove). With low power consumption and high density, the Groove G30 packs a broad range of client services into high-capacity coherent DWDM channels at 100G, 150G and 200G for transmission between data centres.

Coriant is also providing Racks Central with the Coriant 7100 Pico, a 2RU compact and flexible metro edge box that supports efficient aggregation and transport of diverse communications traffic and protocols, including data centre and cloud traffic, and its new Pluggable Optical Layer technology, which provides line system elements such as amplifiers in a compact pluggable format.
