Finisar unveils WaveShaper Series A optical processors

Finisar has introduced a new line of programmable optical processors aimed at applications in advanced communications systems, and has also added new functions to its WaveAnalyzer 1500S optical spectrum analyser software.

The new WaveShaper ‘Series A’ family offers improved optical specifications and enhanced control functions to support optical filtering and processing applications in next-generation communication systems in research, development and manufacturing environments. These processors offer significantly reduced insertion loss and polarisation dependent loss (PDL), and a wider operating wavelength range across both C- and L-band units.

All WaveShaper instruments now include an Ethernet interface, in addition to the existing USB control. Together with the application programming interface (API), this enables efficient configuration of the device and access to measurement data using HTTP commands from a web browser or software programming language. The Series A family also has a built-in web server allowing the user to control the instrument from any device that has a web-browser.

The new WaveShaper Series A instrument is backward compatible with existing models and can serve as a drop-in replacement for previous generation units. The product can be ordered immediately and will begin shipping in October.

In addition, Finisar's WaveAnalyzer 1500S high-resolution optical spectrum analyser provides new analysis functions through the instrument API, including averaging, optical signal-to-noise (OSNR) measurements and programmable resolution bandwidth. This upgrade is available to existing customers by contacting the manufacturer via waveshaper@finisar.com.

These products will be demonstrated at the European Conference on Optical Communications (ECOC) in Düsseldorf, Germany from September 19 to 21 at Finisar's booth #500.
