LONDON, UK – Ensemble, a division of ADVA, announced today that Fujitsu is using the Ensemble Orchestrator and Connector as a key component of its EMEIA managed network services offering. Fujitsu is leveraging Ensemble's network functions virtualisation (NFV) technology to deliver its Virtual Edge solution to business customers across multiple countries. Virtual Edge will be hosted at the customer premises on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) white box servers.
Stepping away from traditional chassis-based designs, Fujitsu has launched a new optical platform based on functional disaggregation. The new 1FINITY platform, which will be available globally, will enable service providers to take advantage of flexibility and modularity in the hardware domain, complementing the flexibility and modularity that has been developed in software with software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualisation (NFV).
Cost and compatibility can make a compelling case for pushing 100Gb/s bandwidth over a single optical channel, both as individual links and supporting 400Gb/s Ethernet, finds Andy Extance

Technological advances to aid the increasing demand for bandwidth, on the path towards the terabit network, should lead to optical signals that are flexible and adaptive, like water, argues Dr Maxim Kuschnerov and Dr Yin Wang
